What to Feed

by Robin
(Russellville, KY)

I have been reading your web site and really like it. I have always wanted to try a homemade diet for my cat but have never found the time till now. We have just moved and she is losing hair on her belly and is throwing up her food. I feed her 1/4 of a can of Nutro Natural Choice and the Purenia One urinary tract formula because she has had problems with that in the past. I believe that the homemade food would work better for her. However this is my question.
How many times a day do I feed the homemade food? and How much do I feed at one time?

RESPONSE:

Kudos on making the decision to try homemade food for your cat! I too, believe it will help make her healthier.
We feed our adult cats a couple of tablespoons of the raw meat food twice a day. Some eat a bit more and some eat less but on average, two tablespoon scoops satisfies most of them.
You may also want to try Walnut and Elm Bach Flower Essences or Changing Times from Spirit Essences to help her cope with the move. Cats tend to hate change and it sounds like the move may have caused her some stress. Also, make sure she has access to lots of safe places (cubbies and high up spots)and use gentle, interactive play to help her feel safe and more at home.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
