stressed cats.

We have just adopted a 12 year old cat from a deceased relative. The cat has settled in to our home well, she is a very relaxed cat. The only problem is our other three cats have moved out. The new cat is so aggressive, everytime she see's the other cats she chases them out of the house. The cats do appear at times to cautiously feed.
The cats have been spraying a lot, a problem we have never had to deal with. Am not sure which cat it is but I think it is one of our original cats.
Please help we need some advice.
Thanks

RESPONSE:
The introduction process should be started over. Isolate the new cat and keep her seperate from the others until the original cats seem to calm down. Co-mingle scents by rubbing the cats with towels and then using the towels as placemats when the cats eat. This helps them associate each other's scent with something positive. When the original cats seem calmer, bring the new cat out in a carrier and sit with all the cats, talking sweetly and giving them all treats. Isolate the original cats and let the new cat out to explore for an hour or so then isolate her again and let the original cats out. Try using Bach Flowers or Spirit Essences (check the links on the left) to help all of them with the transition.
Most of all, be understing of why this is happening. The new cat is suffering a loss, grieving, and is scared. She is acting agressively as a coping mechanism. Your original cats are also upset and scared. A stranger has invaded their territory and is acting mean. They all will likely never become best friends but with time and a slow re-introduction, hopefully they will at least be able to co-exist peacefully in the same house. Good Luck and Be Patient!
