Returning cat

by Brittany

Situation: I am wanting to move out of my parents house. I would like to take my 5 year old cat with me. He and I live in a multiple cat household along with 2 dogs and a lizard. We would be moving to a SINGLE cat house hold(meaning just him). With my grandparents.(who are home all the time)He will have tons of sunlight, large windows and plenty of birds to watch.

How he is: He is very protective of me, he is 100% attatched to me he understands I work alot. He has his own schedual, he gets up at a specific time and sleeps at a certin time. Very clean and picky.100% inside cat

Question: If I take him from a multicat household where he is "king" is he allowed to return? Will they gang up on him if we go back? Will he still be "king"? Will he become bored even though he hates the other cats at my parents and the dog?

RESPONSE:

Most cats love to be the only cat and at 5, it is doubtful he will be bored because there are not any other animals around. He will likely experience some difficulty if he returns to a multiple cat household depending on how long he has been gone. He will smell different to the other cats and they will likely treat him as an intruder. But, with cats, you never really know. I wish we could tell you for certain what will happen but cats are both adaptable and independent so you just never know. Good Luck!
