Please help- My cats vomiting!!!

by vivi
(TN)

Donna-

I am very upset now. As I said in my last question, my cats are on the raw meat diet, when I tried to switch back to the dry food, three out of five cats started to throw up, several times a day. They also did not feel want to eat either raw meat or dry food. I do not understand why this happens to my cats. I stick to the raw meat, but they do not want to eat.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

RESPONSE:

Cats have very sensitive stomachs and throw up easily. The fact that they don't want to eat anything is concerning. Try meat baby food. (We use Gerber's 2nd foods ham and chicken.) Most cats just love it! If they won't even eat that, they may have a virus and should be checked by your vet. If they do eat it, then it's the food they are put off by. Try mixing a little of the food you want them on, slowly increasing the cat food and decreasing the baby food and see if that helps.
Also, because the weather is warming up, hairballs are a problem now. Dry food tends to make cats with hairballs vomit more often. Be sure they are getting some type of hairball stuff regularly.
You also may need to change the dry food you are giving them. If several cats throw up after eating it, it may not be the best for them. Try another type. If you haven't tried canned food and want to stop giving them the raw meat food, try a good, quality canned and see if they eat that. Our cats only vomit dry food.
Just keep trying different foods until you find the one that the majority of them tolerate. Since so many are vomiting the food, I suspect they have developed an intolerance to it rather and so many sick at the same time. But, as always, any concerns should be brought to your vet's attention just in case!
