if you have any questions about our 'Kitty Paddock'!
This is a view of the 'Kitty Paddock' from the road in front of our house. The yard is about 1600 square feet in total.
This is also a view from the road which shows part of our house and the chain link fence surrounding our property. We put the outdoor cat fence inside the chain link along this front side.
This picture was taken from the road in front of the house. If it appears as the view is from high up - it is! The road sits up a hill in front of our house. The cat fence sits about a foot in from the chain link fence. We hoped this would make it more difficult for dogs (or people) to be able to use the slight elevation of the hillside to jump both fences and get into the yard. So far we have only seen one dog try and he smashed into the chain link!
This view is from inside our property but outside the outdoor cat fence. This area had no existing fence so the fact that the Purr...fect Fence is a stand-alone is part of what made it the right choice for us. This view shows the various cat trees we have out there. These trees are not designed to withstand weather so they are slowly falling apart. We have a wood step ladder out there that they like and we are working on cat trees made out of wood that will be able to withstand the sun and rain. It's an ongoing project!
Here are some of our cats watching us take pictures of their play area!
This picture, taken from inside the cat enclosure, shows the gate which provides outdoor access to the outdoor cat enclosure. It blends right in with the fencing and has a pin closure so the cats can't accidentally open it or squeeze their way out. Even tiny kittens can't squeeze out!
This picture was taken standing in the kitty paddock and looking at the screened in porch attached to the house. As you can see there is both a screen door for us and and pet door for the cats. They can freely come and go through their pet door but we do have the ability to block off their door when we need too.
This is a close-up of the pet door taken from inside the screened porch. Note the wood frame used to secure the door. The screening material is thicker than the usual screening stuff and designed to withstand pets. We have it on all our windows! It stands up to cat claws better than regular screens. This is the side used to slide in the door block also.
If you look closely, you'll see a green round thing on the right of the picture. This is the 'turtle' - a child's sand box - that we put out and filled with kitty litter to discourage the cats from using the dirt and grass as a bathroom. It works well for the most part but there are still a couple that prefer the dirt!
This is the cover for the turtle sand box. We cover the sand box when it rains to keep the litter dry. Otherwise, we keep it on top of the big wash tub that we used to bury the oleander we've been trying to kill. The kittens love playing under it!
This is a picture of the umbrella where we sit in the evenings to watch the cats play in their outdoor cat fence area. It has solar lighting for use at night but we couldn't get a good picture of it at night! We also put solar lights around the outdoor cat fence perimeter.
During the summer it gets very hot here so we put a pop-up over their cat trees to provide more shade for the cats. We plan to use more bushes and real trees to provide cover but we have to wait until the weather is better to plant.
We had a heck of a time getting pictures of the cats actually playing in their yard. Whenever we came out to take pictures, they would stop what they were doing and follow us around or line up along the fence to watch us! Flattering to us but hard to get 'cats in action' photos! Needless to say, the cats really enjoy being able to go outside to play and get some fresh air. We enjoy it as well. It is comforting to know that all of our cats can be safe and happy...outdoors!
