One year old at odds with three older cats

by Dawn
(New Haven, Indiana, USA)

Unfortunately, I fell for a very young one year old cat and am in love with her. The problem is my three older cats (6, 8 and 14 year olds) are not as crazy about her. She is very loving as is the 6 year old and both follow me around but this causes the 6 year old to be furious and jealous of her. She is on edge whenever "little cat" is in the same room with her. How can I help them get along better? The other older cats have accepted her more and made boundaries with her. The other two have almost "twin personalalities" and are ideal pets but the 6 year old seems misarable.

What can I do?

DAWN

RESPONSE:

Try more play time with the 2 of them together. Give them treats together when done. Do your best to treat them as equals. Jealousy is quite normal amoung cats and once the 6 year old realizes all is still well regarding her relationship with you, things should get better.
