Old cat and new kitten, 3 months fighting, normal?
The teenage kitten :)
We have two cats : a 2 year old female cat (our oldest one), and a 6-9 months old male kitten (teenage, the youngest). We've had the female cat for about 6 months before we got the male kitten (we rescued him).
Both cats are extremely different in terms of their personality : our female feline is quiet, doesn't always enjoy our company, doesn't always like our affection, loves doing her thing alone, hard to please (and hard to play with) , etc.; the male kitten is incredibly active yet very scared, affectionate, loving and caring, follows us everywhere, never bites or attacks, etc.
We've had the kitten for about 3 months now. Nevertheless, they still fight. Although they have made GREAT progress since we've got the new kitten, they are still running after each other, throwing their paws at each other, hissing and basically annoying one another (constantly, day and night).
I was wondering if they will eventually become companions or is it obvious that they will never get along?
Thank you!
RESPONSE:
Both youngsters are still considered kitten so constant "play fighting" is very normal. Give them other things to do such as puzzles, feeder balls, interactive play with you, Panic Mouse, etc. They have a lot of energy to burn so provide them with an outlet to burn off this energy other than each other once in a while.
As for your oldest, make sure she has plenty of places to hide, get up high, and otherwise get away from the youngsters. She does not want to play with them so don't force her into a situation that makes her unhappy. Just let her do her own thing since that is what makes her happy.
