Bully Cat
by: Stephanie

Hi Donna,

My new cat is so aggressive...if I put her in a room by herself, she scratches at the carpet, meows and bangs herself against the wall. Once I open the door to even go in, she's out. I don't know what to do. She keeps going after my other cats and even me at times. But then, she turns around and is the most loving animal I have ever encountered. My vet is telling me I should bring in a behavorist...but I think that will become very expensive. I was going to buy the Feliway plug-ins and see if that helps. My new baby is just ruling the entire house.

RESPONSE

Have you tried the re-introduction process, Bach Flower Essences or Spirit Essences? If so, have you noticed any changes? A Feliway diffuser in the room might help. She may also respond favorably to Rescue Remedy. If she is severely stressed, try St. John's Wort 100mg twice daily. We use the liquid because it's easier to measure the dose. If you have tried everything and nothing seems to help, a behaviorist may be your best bet. Spirit Essences as a very good Cat Behaviorist that you can email or call. Just go to their website and use the contact email or 800#. She sounds very anxious and stressed when it comes to other cats. If it is too ingrained in her, you may have no other choice but to re-home her to a 1 cat only household. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
