Just added No. 6 and need help!

by Sherry
(Comstock Park, Mi, USA)

Hi,

I have had cats all my life. I had 5 and then my daughter brought me a 5 month old she found that was terribly thin and needed a home. The deal was she was supposed to take her when she left from staying with me for a bit. Well you know how that goes and Lily stayed with me. My cats don't really care for her and she is not to sure about my other cats but peace is not too far off behavior wise with their interactiions. My problem is she is now 10 mos. old,and their are still issues. Most troublesome is that a few of my other cats and Lily are urinating around the house. This will stop for a month or so and start up again. I have 6 large litter boxes that are scooped daily and washed out regularly. I clean the messes up with a good enzyme cleaner until I am sure the odor is gone also. This problem has come and gone about 3 times now since she has been here. All my cats are spayed and or nutered. I have feliway difusers pluged in also and Lily has her own room at night to lighten the stress I am sure they are under. I really don't want to try to find Lily a new home as she has come a long way since she came here as a very stressed and needy kitten. I would welcome any advice anyone has on how to make things less stressful. I do play exercise with them and try to do it every day especially with Lily who is a stressed kitty and young and needs to get the stress out of her system.

Thanks for anyones help in advance.

Sherry

RESPONSE:

It sounds like you are doing all the right things. With strays, it can take some time before they un-learn their streetwise behavior. You can also try giving them some Bach Flower Essences or Spirit Essences to help with coping issues. You can read more about these on our website - Just click the links on the left. In the meantime, keep doing what you are doing. Things should get better as Lily gets older.
