Intoducing an older blind cat to established 1 yr old sighted cat

Two days ago I adopted a 12/13 yr old blind cat (a stray) into my home. I recently moved to this house with 2 cats but one decided he didn't like it and has gone missing. So I now have Fred plus Thomas my new boy. This is new to me and am confining new cat to the lounge. I am not sure where to put the blind cats food dishes. He finds his litter tray which is in a crate in corner of room but keeps walking into his water and food dishes. I know they can't be close to the litter. I can bring the dishes to him but want him to be able to find them himself. Sometimes he smells the food but not always and as water has no smell I am at a loss as to where to put the dish. is it best near a wall, in a corner or somewhere close to the crate?
Thank you

RESPONSE:
Having a blind cat can be difficult and you are to be commended taking him on. Try using bowls that sit on an elevated holder so he can't walk in them. He may bump them and knock them over but he should get their location down soon. Keeping him confined in a small room is the best way for him. Given his age and disability, having a small territory will be easier for him to learn. Just have patience!
