inappropriate urination

by Shelly
(Canton)

I rescued a litter of 3 Russian Blue mix female kittens. They are around 7 months old & have been vet checked and are in good health. I have 2 questions.

1. Only 1 of the kittens urinates inappropriately. She uses the litter box but also randomly urinates on other objects. Her favorite being a chair in the bedroom. She's been checked by my vet & is healthy. He says it's a behavioral problem. I've tried comfort zone spray & diffuser with no luck. I'm getting rid of the chair this week. And I use an enzyme cleaner to clean up her mistakes so I'm not sure what to do next. She's very petite & is the size of a 4 month old kitten. I do have other cats in the home who have taken in the kittens with no problem. The female in question does torment an adult male cat but he doesn't pay much attention to her since she's so small. She hasn't been spayed yet. Do you think spaying may end the issue? In the meantime would you recommend rescue remedy?

2. I have 1 cat that bullies his 2 brothers. He'll randomly jump on 1 of them and bite them. They get mad and swat at him and then it's over. They're all neutered. Is this normal cat behavior?

All of my cat's are rescues & it's only been about a year since I got them so I'm new to the whole "cat thing" because I haven't had cats since I was a kid.

RESPONSE:

The boys' behavior is perfectly normal. Remember, they are basically kids so jumping on each other and play fighting is how they pass the time and bond with each other. Don't be concerned about it.
Regarding your little one peeing on the chair, getting rid of the chair may solve the problem. Be sure you have enough litter boxes for everyone in various areas and that they are kept clean. She may not like to use a box after another cat has been there or may prefer to urinate and deficate in different boxes. See what happens once the chair is gone.
