Howling while carrying a stuffed animal

My 14 year old female (fixed) will pick up either a small stuffed frog or monkey. She'll howl as she carries it from one spot in the house to another. When she sees us, she'll continue to howl, then either drop it or put the object in a basket. Perhaps a day later, we'll hear her howling again. We just say, "Here she comes with the monkey". Why does she do this? Is this something she thinks she's hunted and caught and is bringing it as a prize or a baby substitute? It's cute but EXTREMELY loud.

RESPONSE:

It is likely that this is her "prey" and she is proudly bringing it to you. Respond with praise, offer her a treat, then hide the monkey. Hopefully, it will take her awhile to find it again!
