HOSTILE

by emma
(planifield)

i have two female cats..both are pregnant! the other day one of them gave birth to four kittens! and my other cat that is still pregnant if very hostile to the new mommy. she always growls at her and wants to hit her!! why is that and what can i do to make her like the newborns and the mom, because i am afraid to leave the house with her wondering around thinking she might hurt them!!

RESPONSE:

You can't do anything to "make" the mama's like the others babies. Mother cats are very protective and hostility is not unusual. Each is concerned with protecting her babies. Keep them isolated in seperated room with their babies so the kittens aren't put at risk. While it is true that in feral colonies mother cats will sometimes help each other with kitten care, it doesn't always happen and kittens have been hurt. It is not worth the risk to the babies. As soon as the kittens are weaned, get the mama cats spayed then this won't ever be an issue for you again.
