Going in the bathroom sink

by Nancy
(New York)

Okay I have two kittens and I have two litter boxes downstairs in the small bathroom. They stay in there at night. The one kitten has decided to start going poop in the bathroom sink in the morning instead of going in the litter boxes. The boxes are clean. Have been using the litter boxes before this. Not sure what to do to correct this.

RESPONSE:

If they haven't been dewormed, take them to the vet, have the stool checked for worms and deworm both of them. Then, line the sink with plastic, foil, etc., cover the sink with a board (A cutting board will work) making sure it is secure and will not fall off when kitty walks on it, and put a small box filled with kitty litter on top. Then every day or 2, start moving the little box closer and closer to the floor until it is on the floor. Kittens often do odd things as they learn about themselves and the world. This may simply be her way of "showing off" the fact that she can get up to the sink!
