I have 4 cats, all born strays. Gaga, my cat, the one that pees everywhere, she seems mad lately, out of nowhere if being pet may bite you, likes baths and to be dressed up(very odd). Snickers, the oldest, makes sure everyone knows shes the boss, my moms cat. Baby, about a year old, loves to play, gets along with everyone, household kitty. Tilly, newest cat, 4 months old, my boyfriends cat, Gaga and Snickers do not like her, Baby is her best friend, sweetest little kitten. I have had the three that do not pee on things since they were kittens, I have had Gaga since she was a year and a half. The shelter said she was a stray, I think that may have to do with her peeing wherever she wants, but it has been happening so much more since we got Tilly. Gaga, used to sleep in bed with me every night, now Tilly sleeps in the bed too and Gaga growls and gets angry if even brought near the bed now. She sleeps in the basement alone now, shes always in the basement or trying to get outside. We try to keep her as an inside cat but she loves being outside and when she gets out sometimes she'll be gone for about a week and come home skinny and starving. I feel like we have tried everything. The vet said she is healthy. We locked her in my room with the litter box for four days to get a stool sample for the vet and she used the box. We have 5 litter boxes, 2 upstairs and 3 in the basement. Our house and the litter boxes are always clean and free of cat oder. We have tried a litter that is supposed to make your cat want to use the little box. We play with her and give her a lot of attention, I try to let her know that I am still hers and try not to let her see me playing with Tilly too much. Before bed i go in the basement and sit with her and pet her for about a half hour, then I try to bring her to bed, but she goes back to the basement. If we see her use the litter box the whole house is notified and everyone gives her positive attention. If we catch her peeing on something we will slightly yell (not really yell, just say in a firm voice) her name, just to get her to stop then when she stops we just let her go and we clean it up. She is urinating, not spraying.
RESPONSEGaga is upset because of the addition to the family and that she is now unable to sleep with you anymore. She feels like Tilly has taken her place. That she was fine and used the litter box when she was isolated in the bedroom is a big clue! She considered the bedroom her domain and now Tilly has taken it over. Try using Bach Flower Essences or Spirit Essences to help calm things. Keep providing lots of play time and leave out toys, feeder balls, puzzle boxes, etc. for them to play with when you are not there and at night. Play with Gaga in the bedroom at night before bed (make sure Tilly is not there). Give them treats when they are in the same room together. The idea is to get them to associate good things with each other. It may take some time before Gaga will beging to accept Tilly but it can happen. Just keep working with them.
