Cat fights

by Diana
(Tempe, AZ)

Hello,

I have three cats right now. A female and a male and their 8 month old kitten. Recently, the female has started to act differently, kind of like how she acted when she just had her kittens. She has been following the kitten around and meowing at her for a couple of days. When the male cat approached her when she was with the kitten she attacked him then attacked the kitten. I have kept them separated in different rooms for a day but the male cat is still hissing at her when I try to reintroduce them and hiding in the corner. I can't keep them separated much longer because whichever one isn't in the room with me meows all night. My male cat is fixed but the other two are not. I need some help figuring out how to get them to get along again like they use to. I can't afford to get the female cat fixed right now but I am in cat hell right now! Any help would be great.

RESPONSE:

Getting the female fixed will help a lot. She is still in protection mode with her kitten and will not befriend the male because of it. If you are planning to adopt out the kitten, the female will not be so confrontational once the kitten is gone. Otherwise, getting the female fixed and the kitten growing older are the only things that will help curb her protective instincts. Keep them seperated until you can get her fixed. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
