Adding a new cat to the family.

I have an 8 year old dominate male DSH and would like to add another cat to the family - what would be the best to add? He is fixed. I think he needs companionship during the day.

RESPONSE:

Adding another cat will be a coin toss no matter what you get. Your boy may not want companionship! So just be ready for rejection! That being said, an adult cat of similar age and temperment that is also fixed would be your best bet. A kitten may be too much for him. Check at your local shelter or PetSmart (if you are near one) and tell them what you are looking for. They will point you toward an adult cat that has been fixed, and gets along with other cats.

Good Luck!
